Authorship Criteria

Mitra Pilar: Jurnal Pendidikan, Inovasi, dan Terapan Teknologi follows the authorship recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Who Qualifies as an Author

Each person listed as an author must meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data (for example, designing the learning intervention, developing the instrument or learning media, collecting data in schools, or analysing results);
  2. Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. Final approval of the version to be published;
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, including its accuracy and integrity.

Acquiring funding, general supervision, providing access to a school or class, or language editing alone does not qualify a person for authorship. Such contributions should be listed in the Acknowledgements section.

2. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author communicates with the journal during submission, peer review, and publication, ensures that all co-authors have approved the submission and the final version, and makes sure that all required statements (Funding, Conflict of Interest, Author Contributions, and Use of AI) are complete and accurate.

3. Author Contribution Statement

Every article must include an Author Contributions statement using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), for example: Conceptualization, Methodology, Software, Validation, Formal analysis, Investigation, Resources, Data curation, Writing – original draft, Writing – review & editing, Visualization, Supervision, Project administration, Funding acquisition.

4. Order of Authors

The order of authors is decided jointly by the authors before submission. All authors must be listed with full names, affiliations, countries, email addresses, and ORCID iDs (recommended).

5. Changes to Authorship

Changes to the list of authors (addition, removal, or reordering) are permitted only before the manuscript is accepted and must be requested by the corresponding author with:

  • the reason for the change; and
  • written agreement from all authors, including the author being added or removed.

After acceptance, changes are made only in exceptional cases and require approval from the Chief Editor. Changes after publication are handled through a correction notice in accordance with the Correction and Retraction Policy. Disputes are handled following COPE flowcharts.

6. Guest, Gift, and Ghost Authorship

Including people who did not contribute (guest or gift authorship) or omitting people who meet the criteria (ghost authorship) is a form of research misconduct and will be handled under the Research Misconduct policy.

7. Artificial Intelligence

AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Authors who use AI tools for language improvement must state this in the Use of AI statement and remain fully responsible for the content.
