Aims and Scope

Mitra Teras: Jurnal Terapan Pengabdian Masyarakat is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published twice a year, in June and December, by PT Mitra Jurnal Indonesia.

Aims

The journal aims to turn community service into scholarly knowledge. We publish community engagement work that is planned with clear methods, carried out with community partners, and evaluated with measurable evidence. Our goals are to:

  1. Provide a scholarly venue for community engagement programs that show clear and measurable results.
  2. Improve the scientific quality of community service reporting, from needs assessment to impact evaluation.
  3. Share program models that other communities, universities, and practitioners can adapt and use.
  4. Connect academic knowledge with real community needs, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Focus

The journal focuses on evidence-based community engagement. A strong manuscript in Mitra Teras:

  • starts from a real problem identified together with the community, for example through a needs assessment or situation analysis;
  • uses a clear and suitable approach, such as Participatory Action Research (PAR), Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), Community-Based Research (CBR), Service Learning, training and mentoring, or the transfer of appropriate technology;
  • measures change with data, such as pre-test and post-test results, observation, surveys, interviews, or indicators of social, economic, health, or environmental change;
  • discusses the results critically, compares them with previous studies, and explains how the program can be sustained or replicated.

Scope

We welcome manuscripts from any discipline, as long as the work involves direct engagement with communities. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Community Empowerment and Local Economic Development – small businesses (UMKM), village development, entrepreneurship, and local livelihoods.
  2. Applied Technology and Innovation – appropriate technology, digital transformation, geospatial mapping, and engineering solutions for community problems.
  3. Health and Well-being – health education, disease prevention, nutrition, and community health programs.
  4. Environmental Sustainability – waste management, conservation, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation.
  5. Education and Capacity Building – teacher training, learning innovation, literacy, and skills development.
  6. Culture, Arts, and Social Cohesion – heritage, tourism, local wisdom, and inclusive community development.

What We Expect

Every manuscript must report how the results of the program were evaluated. Manuscripts that only describe activities, without data on results or impact, will be returned to the authors for revision before peer review. Research that does not involve engagement with a community is outside the scope of this journal.

The article types we accept are explained on the Types of Manuscript page. Authors should also read the Author Guidelines before submitting.
